David's Tree Lopping

Tree services, Mt Ousley

Mt Ousley is the bushland edge of the Illawarra. Most blocks back straight onto the escarpment, the streets are some of the steepest in Wollongong, and the trees are tall, wild, and constantly dropping limb load onto rooftops below. We’ve been doing Mt Ousley since 2014, and our rigging kit and APZ paperwork are built for these exact streets.

Six services, one local crew

The full kit for Mt Ousley bushland-edge blocks and steep escarpment streets. Bundle two or more on the same visit and we’ll quote them together.

Bushland edge, steep streets, fire-zone work

Mt Ousley is unlike anywhere else in our network. The blocks back straight onto the Illawarra escarpment bushland, the streets climb at gradients you don’t see anywhere else in residential Wollongong, and the trees are full-grown wild gums rather than planted Federation ornamentals.

That changes the work. Most jobs are bushfire APZ pruning (Asset Protection Zone) for RFS and council compliance, sectional rigging for tree removals on steep blocks, and hedge work to handle the noise from Mt Ousley Road and the M1 onramp. It’s specialist work and we run it with the right kit.

  • Bushland edge and fire riskMost Mt Ousley blocks back onto the Illawarra escarpment proper. APZ-compliant pruning (Asset Protection Zone) is the local norm. We prepare the RFS certificate as part of the job.
  • Steepest residential streets on the networkThe upper Mt Ousley streets climbing to the escarpment top out at gradients sectional rigging and EWP gear can barely reach. We job-plan access before we quote.
  • Motorway and university adjacentMt Ousley Road and the M1 onramp run along the south side. Highway-noise blocks need denser hedge screens, and the UOW student rentals nearby need landlord-friendly scheduling.
  • Wollongong Council oversightTRPA required for most trees over 5 metres or 600mm trunk circumference. Bushland-edge blocks have additional rules. We lodge the application for you.

Do I need council approval to remove a tree in Mt Ousley?

Wollongong City Council requires a Tree Removal Permit Application (TRPA) for trees over 5 metres or 600mm trunk circumference. Mt Ousley sits on the bushland boundary, which usually means a bushfire-aware review on top of the standard TRPA. Dead, dangerous, or exempt species can often go without approval. We lodge the application as part of the quote.

Can you do bushfire APZ pruning for Asset Protection Zones?

Yes. Most Mt Ousley properties back onto the escarpment bushland and need an Asset Protection Zone kept clear. We prune to the NSW RFS 10/30 rule (Inner Protection Area), clear undergrowth and dead limbs, and supply the certificate of compliance for council and insurance.

Can you handle the steepest Mt Ousley blocks?

Yes. The upper Mt Ousley streets are some of the steepest residential blocks in the Illawarra. We rig trees down in sections, use EWP gear where the driveway grade allows, and run hand-winching on the absolute worst access. Job-site walk-throughs before we quote so there are no surprises.

Do you work on UOW student rentals and investment properties?

Yes. A lot of Mt Ousley housing is rented to UOW students or runs as long-term investment property. We quote off photos, work without anyone home (with side access), email the invoice and photo report direct to the agent, and time the work for between-semester windows where the landlord prefers it.

Does pricing change for Mt Ousley compared to other suburbs?

No. Same flat pricing across the Wollongong council area. No travel surcharge to Mt Ousley. Steep-block rigging, EWP access, and APZ paperwork are quoted up-front so there are no surprises on the invoice.
