David's Tree Lopping

Tree services, Bulli

Bulli is the heart of the northern Illawarra, a Federation-era village wedged between the escarpment and the beach. Old cottages around the Black Diamond District, the Headlands Hotel up on the cliff, and southerly busters funnelling down Bulli Pass that drop branches when they hit. We’ve been doing Bulli since 2014, and we know exactly which way a gum’s going to fall when the wind comes through.

Heritage village, storm-belt, beach venues

Bulli is one of the oldest established villages in the northern Illawarra and you can read it in the trees. Federation cottages on Park Road, the Black Diamond District streets, the Headlands Hotel on the cliff, all sitting under canopies that have been here as long as the houses.

Add Bulli Pass funnelling southerly busters straight off the escarpment and you’ve got the worst of both worlds: heritage paperwork on one hand, the most active storm season on the northern beaches on the other.

  • Heritage village characterBulli's Black Diamond District and the streets around Park Road carry Federation-era cottages and the matching mature jacarandas, figs, and gums. Heritage-area work needs a careful eye.
  • Bulli Pass southerly buster funnelThe Pass channels south-westerlies straight off the escarpment and into Bulli backyards. We see more storm damage and dropped limbs here than anywhere on the northern beaches.
  • Headlands Hotel and venue workThe Headlands Hotel and the Bulli Beach foreshore reserve carry mature Norfolks and coastal gums. We do scheduled grounds maintenance for the events properties along the cliff.
  • Wollongong Council oversightTRPA required for most trees over 5 metres or 600mm trunk circumference. Heritage cottages have stricter rules again. We lodge the application for you.

Do I need council approval to remove a tree in Bulli?

Wollongong City Council requires a Tree Removal Permit Application (TRPA) for trees over 5 metres or 600mm trunk circumference. Heritage cottages around the Black Diamond District have stricter rules again. Dead, dangerous, or exempt species can often go without approval. We lodge the application as part of the quote.

Can you do storm clean-ups after a southerly buster?

Yes. Bulli Pass funnels south-westerlies straight into Bulli backyards, so we run a lot of storm pickups after a bad blow. We can usually be there within 24 to 48 hours of the storm clearing. Larger jobs (full tree down on a house) get priority. Insurance reports and photo documentation supplied.

Can you work on heritage cottages in the Black Diamond District?

Yes. The Federation cottages around Park Road, Princes Highway, and Hospital Road are common Bulli work. We prepare arborist reports, lodge TRPAs with heritage impact statements where needed, and use sectional rigging on tight blocks so the original house and stonework stay intact.

Do you work on Headlands Hotel and Bulli Beach venue properties?

Yes. We do scheduled grounds maintenance for the Headlands Hotel area and the Bulli Beach foreshore properties. Coastal Norfolks, mature gums, hedge edges, and post-event clean-ups around weddings. Certificate of currency on file, work coordinated around bookings.

Does pricing change for Bulli compared to other suburbs?

No. Same flat pricing across the Wollongong council area. No travel surcharge to Bulli from Fairy Meadow. Heritage cottage paperwork or tight-access jobs are quoted up-front so there are no surprises.
