A hedge is a hedge until it isn’t. Two seasons of skipped trims and you’ve got a wall of wood with green tips. Trim the right way at the right time and they stay tight, dense and healthy.

— David, owner

Overgrown hedges go from feature to eyesore fast

Hedges and screening shrubs only look sharp when they’re cut properly and cut often. Skip a season and the inside hollows out, the line gets ragged, and the curb appeal you paid for goes with it.

  • Lost privacy where you need it

Screening hedges that aren't capped grow leggy and thin out at eye level. The privacy you planted them for disappears.

  • Curb appeal gone in a season

A wobbly, ragged top line turns the front of the house from sharp to scruffy. It's the first thing visitors and buyers see.

  • Hollow centres and dead patches

Hedges trimmed badly (or not at all) shade out their own inner growth. Once the centre's dead, it's hard to bring back.

  • Pests, mould, and snapped limbs

Untrimmed thick growth holds moisture, invites scale and sooty mould, and overloaded branches split under their own weight.

Looking for arborists to help you with hedge trimming?

You’ll get honest advice, clear pricing, and no pushy sales talk. Just what you need, when you need it.

How much does hedge trimming cost in Wollongong?

Small formal hedges (low box, dwarf lilly pilly) start at $150 to $300. Medium screens 1.5 to 3 metres run $300 to $600. Tall or long boundary hedges $600 to $1,500-plus. Every quote is fixed and written, all-in (labour, clean-up, waste removal).

How often should hedges be trimmed?

Most formal hedges want two cuts a year in the Illawarra: late spring and late summer. Fast-growers like lilly pilly and murraya can take three. Native screens 12-monthly is usually enough. We can put you on a schedule so you don't have to remember.

When is the best time of year to trim hedges in NSW?

Late spring (October to November) and late summer (February to March) hit the sweet spot. Plants have finished a flush, the wood has hardened, and they'll respond with tight, even regrowth. Avoid hard cuts in deep winter or peak heat.

Hand shears or powered trimmers?

Both, depending on the plant and the finish. Powered for the bulk of long runs, hand shears or secateurs for the finish line and any feature shape. Whatever gives a cleaner cut and a tidier hedge.

Can you bring an overgrown hedge back?

Most of the time, yes. Lilly pilly, murraya, viburnum, photinia all respond well to staged reduction. Some plants (older conifers especially) don't bud back from old wood, so we'll tell you straight if a full restoration is risky.

Do you take the clippings with you?

Always. Everything goes through the chipper on site or carted away. We rake, blow down paths and lawns, and leave the yard cleaner than when we got there.

Can you put me on a maintenance schedule?

Yes. Quarterly, 6-monthly or annual. We diary it and just turn up at the agreed window. No need to chase a quote each time.
