Bad lopping leaves stubbed branches that regrow weak and rotten two years later. Good lopping respects the tree’s structure and lasts decades.

When a tree's too big for the spot it's in

There’s a moment when you realise the tree you planted (or inherited) is now blocking the view, dropping debris over the pool, and casting shade where you wanted sun. Lopping is the answer when it’s done by people who know what they’re doing.

  • Blocking views and sunlight

The harbour view you bought the place for. The sun that used to hit the pool. Easy to fix, easy to ruin if it's done wrong.

  • Way too big for the spot

Backyard gums hitting 25 metres with houses five metres away. Time to bring it back down to size.

  • Constant leaf and bark drop

Oversized canopies mean buckets of debris in gutters, pools, and lawns. Lopping reduces the load.

  • Risk in big winds

Tall, top-heavy trees with little internal structure are the ones that come down in southerlies. Reduce the sail area, reduce the risk.

Lopping done right, not hacked

Bad lopping leaves stubbed branches that regrow weak and rotten. Good lopping makes cuts at proper junctions, respects the tree’s structure, and gives you the result you wanted without killing the tree two years later.

Crown reduction

Bringing height and spread down at proper lateral branches. The tree stays healthy, you get your view back.

Looking for a tree lopper?

You’ll get honest advice, clear pricing, and no pushy sales talk. Just what you need, when you need it.

Is lopping the same as pruning?

Not quite. Pruning is selective and structural. Lopping is heavier reduction, typically shortening a tree's height or major limbs. Both can be healthy for a tree when done correctly. We'll tell you whether your job is really a pruning job or a lopping job.

Will lopping damage my tree?

Done badly (flush cuts, stubbed branches, topping), yes. It can kill the tree slowly through decay. Done properly (cuts at lateral branches, respecting the tree's natural form), it's healthy and the tree recovers strongly. We do it properly.

How much does tree lopping cost in Wollongong?

Most residential lopping runs $400 to $2,500 depending on tree size, access, and how much volume comes off. Multi-tree jobs are quoted together. You get a written quote before we start. No surprises.

Do I need council approval for lopping?

Often yes, especially if you're reducing a tree by more than 10% of its canopy or working on a protected species. Wollongong and Shellharbour councils have specific Tree Preservation Orders. We'll tell you whether you need approval and how to get it.

How quickly can it be done?

Most jobs are booked within a week of accepting the quote. Storm-damaged or dangerous trees jump the queue.

Will lopping make the tree grow back faster?

It will grow back, but properly executed reductions encourage slower, denser, structurally sound regrowth. Topped trees regrow fast and weak, which is exactly why we don't top trees.

Do you take everything away?

Yes. Branches chipped on site, larger sections carted, lawn raked. Standard practice, not an extra.
